Light at the End of the Tunnel

By Ying Ying

Acting President

Our acting president, as usual, energetic and full of enthusiasm

In previous meeting, dated 5 Dec 2013 with the theme “the light at the end of the tunnel”, we were mesmerized by different stories on how members and guests conquer hurdles in life and finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. The meeting was helmed by our very kind friend from Monash TMC, Shalini. During her invocation session, she shared with us her challenge to lose weight in order to get married :P, and that wedding would be the light at the end of the tunnel. Yuen Yeng, as the acting president took over the control and urged the audience to overcome hardship, learn from our mistakes and to never give up.

Then, Toastmaster of the evening, Kenny took over the control by sharing with us the history of International Toastmaster and Sunway TMC, as well as introducing the role players. He then passed the control to the table topic master, Geraldyn to spearhead the table topic session. There were 6 brave souls who stepped forward and shared with us interesting people or things they saw at the end of the tunnel. Calvin first volunteered to speak about his hike at Broga hill where he fell off the track, followed a trail into a tunnel and eventually met his dream girl at the end of it. Second challenger, Jia Herng shared his involvement in investment where he earned his first pot of gold, about how he started his food & beverage business and persevered through and saw the fruit in the end. Desmond, being the third speaker shared with us that he saw a spaceship at the end of the tunnel. He twisted the topic in an inspiring way by sharing his admiration for Richard Branson and urged the audience to not give up and persevere till the end.

Fourth speaker, Ching Hooi then talked about her hometown in Sekinchan where every morning she would wait for the fisherman to come back to buy their fishes. I guess that is what she long to see at the end of the tunnel, the fisherman village, Sekinchan, a place she called…HOME. Newbie Jian Kit, at the end of the tunnel, he saw his worst nightmare. He talked about his fear for animals since young and was chased by a dog and was subsequently saved by a girl, who later taught him to overcome his fear. Last speaker, E Chin shared with us the feeling of her watching a movie named “Silent Hill” where the main character found a man dead at the end of the movie. That man was actually killed by a mother who was trying to save her beloved daughter and she ended her speech by sharing a powerful message, mother is GOD in every child’s eye.

Congratulations Jocelyn, looking forward to hear your future speech in toastmaster!

Next was the essence of the meeting, the project speech session. In her icebreaker speech, we got to know more about Jocelyn, whereby she shared with us her three stages of life in three different states of the country. To pursue her dream, she has to jump out from her comfort zone and learn how to live in the unfamiliar places all over again.

The second speaker was Ching Hooi, who shared with us her mission impossible of Jungle Trekking which she successfully conquered it at last. With the “you can do it” spirit, she persevered and she managed to complete the trek. It was a surprise to her because after 2 hours of hardship, what awaits her was a beautiful scenery, and she really felt proud of herself. Ching Hooi, We are proud of you too!

Third speaker was our VPPR, Yuen Yeng who delivered her CC7, with the title of the lady and the chocolate! She revealed the myth of chocolates that has confused everyone all the time. The truth is that right type and right amount of chocolate will not build more fats, instead burn more fats. It will not cause the growth of pimples too! The right chocolate, which is the dark chocolate can actually prevent diabetes. Moderation is the key!

Like a Rock ~ Steve’s CC10

Like a Rock ~ Steve’s CC10

Steve, the fourth speaker, persevered like a Rock. He inspired us with his personal stories of how he used to precede many people like the stars in the sky, turned out fall into the valley bottom. However, he didn’t lose faith and in the tunnel of total darkness, he kept moving forward and refuse to give up. He then rises up and he finally achieved as the top producer of his negotiator role in his company. It was also that perseverance, pushes him to achieve his CC10 today! He has now been promoted to competent communicator! Congratulations Steve! 😀

Last speaker was Selina, with her title “life is a box of chocolate”. She shared with us the continuous misfortunes happened on her during the past three months. However, she was glad that in her last misfortune that she twisted her ankle, there was a white knight, as handsome as Patrick Ramsey gave her a helping hand. Despite of all these unfortunates, she was really happy that her daughter, husband, and her godfather have been there to take care of her. That’s happiness to her I would say. J

Later on, breakfast of champion, evaluation session was conducted by our General Evaluator, Tiger. Special thanks to Yoong Hean, Shalini (Monash TMC), Aaron, Tiger (Mas Melor TM), Ejiat (Achivers TM) for their constructive feedback on how the speakers can improve on to propel their future speeches to even greater height.

Before the meeting ends, we had our usual drumroll session, whereby………
