Road to Success is Littered with Failures

TME: Timothy Tan

This meeting was a special day for senior members as Everlin Wong returned from China after 2 years and still keeps the Toastmasters spirit close at heart.

Raymond Chong described how he went on a diet and persevered to keep himself in shape. Madam President Kwee Lan took over the control and shared a real life story of one of our past president, Lincoln Leong’s journey in the District 51 Table Topic contest in 2009/2010 on how he managed to win 2nd runner-up despite the fact that he had an awkward pause due to nervousness.

Next was the Table Topic session where Melvin gave the guest and new members an opportunity to come on stage. Yi Weng, a new member was first where he explained that success and failure are part and parcels of life and that success is a journey and failure only helps you to grow.

Next up was Mei Yi who shared with the audience about her role model – her mom. Mei Yi’s mom was very supportive and she was the one who encouraged Mei Yi to join Toastmasters despite knowing that Mei Yi was a shy girl.

Everlin proved that even after a 2 year absence, she still had her edge by first connecting with the audience and then reiterate that building relationship is not an option, it is a constant effort.

Last but not least, Steve Chuah who shared his meaning of success – everything from relationship, wealth, health, career, etc.

The Table Topic Evaluator, Sher Li wrapped up the Table Topic session by emphasizing on proper posture and the importance of a conclusion and a strong take home message.

After the break, our C4 Area Governor gave a presentation on the High Performance Leadership (HPL) Program where she shared with the audience her vision and goal in being the Area Governor and her approach in establishing a closer relationship between the 5 clubs under her jurisdiction.

The 3rd speaker was Ai Bee on her trip in conquering Mount Kinabalu where she slogged to reach the peak and witnessed the beautiful scenery along the way. Chen Ni gave a glimpse of her “fun” side by sharing her moments where she “loosens up”.
